Privacy Policy

Effective 1 September 2026. Last updated 1 September 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains how NEELD Holdings Pty Ltd ("NEELD", "we", "us") handles information in connection with the MEC Smart Lock app for Android (au.com.neeld.mec.smartlock) — the "App" — and this website, neeld.com.au (the "Site").

The App controls an MEC MFPD780 door lock over Bluetooth from your own phone. It runs entirely on your device, has no user accounts, and connects to no server of ours or anyone else's.

The App collects no personal information and transmits nothing anywhere. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no servers. It does not request the Android INTERNET permission, so it has no ability to send data off your device even in principle.

The short version

Information we collect

None. We do not collect, receive, store or have access to any information about you or your locks. Because the App cannot reach the internet, no information can be sent to us, and none is.

Through the App we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, usage analytics or advertising identifiers.

What the App stores on your device

Everything the App knows stays on the phone it is installed on:

Automatic cloud backup is switched off for the App (allowBackup="false"), so none of this is swept into Google's device backup service.

Backups you create

The App can write an encrypted backup file, or print a paper record, so that you can restore your locks onto a new phone. You choose whether to make one and where it goes. A backup file is encrypted with a password you set, and neither the file nor the password is sent to us or to anyone else. Once you have saved or printed it, keeping it safe is yours to manage.

Permissions, and why

You can review or withdraw permissions at any time in your device settings, via Settings → Apps → MEC Smart Lock → Permissions.

Fingerprints, PIN codes and cards

On the lock. Where your MEC lock supports fingerprint, PIN or card access, those credentials are enrolled on and stored by the lock hardware itself. Fingerprint data is never sent to, processed by or stored by the App or by NEELD. The App holds only the label you choose for each entry. Fingerprints are removed using your lock's own controls.

On your phone. The App may ask you to confirm your fingerprint, face or screen lock before it opens. That check is performed by Android itself; the App receives only a yes or no, and never sees or stores biometric data.

Sharing

We do not share, sell or disclose personal information, because we do not have any. There are no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking components in the App.

Removing your data

All App data lives on your device, and uninstalling the App removes it. We hold no personal data of yours to retain or delete.

Before you uninstall, make a backup. Uninstalling the App also destroys your lock keys. If you have not made a backup, the lock can no longer be managed from a phone and will need a factory reset — which erases every PIN code, fingerprint and card stored on it.

This website and service providers

The Site is a static informational website hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It does not set advertising cookies or run third-party analytics. If you contact us using the email address listed on the Site, we use those details only to respond to your enquiry.

To deliver the Site we rely on a small number of infrastructure providers — Cloudflare (hosting and security) and Google Fonts (web fonts) — which may automatically process standard technical information such as your IP address and request logs solely to serve and secure the Site, under their own privacy policies. We do not permit them to use this information to identify you or for their own marketing. The App itself uses no third-party services.

Data security

Because your lock data never leaves your device, its protection is tied to your device's own security. Lock keys are held in the Android Keystore, and the App can be placed behind your device's biometric or screen lock. We recommend keeping your device protected with a passcode or biometric lock and keeping your operating system up to date.

Children

The App is intended for adults who own a lock. Neither the App nor the Site is directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Material changes affecting the App will also be noted in its release notes on Google Play.

Your rights and complaints

Because we hold no data about you, there is in almost all cases nothing for us to provide, correct or delete on request. You may still ask what personal information we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, or raise a privacy concern by emailing info@neeld.com.au. As an Australian company, we handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
